TESTIMONIALS

"YOUR PERSONALITY AND CONVERSATIONAL STYLE REALLY SHINE THROUGH THE TEXT IN THIS BOOK. IT FEELS LIKE I'M RECEIVING CASUAL, IN-PERSON, PRIVATE INSTRUCTION FROM A PRO. THE HUMOR, THE BACKGROUND, THE ENTHUSIASM, ETC... MAKE THE BOOK A HELLUVALOT MORE ENGAGING THAN THE COMMON DRUM BOOK - MOST OF WHICH READ LIKE A DICTIONARY. IT'S A HUGE BREATH OF FRESH AIR."

"THIS IS INCREDIBLE. I FEEL REALLY GRATEFUL AND PROUD TO HAVE YOU AS MY INSTRUCTOR. THANK YOU FOR THE WORK AND PASSION YOU PUT INTO THIS

“THE RESCUE WORKOUT WARMED ME UP SO MUCH THAT THE STICKS FELT LIKE AN EXTENSION OF MY THOUGHTS."

Playing With Fire is designed to fast-track readers to become solid, competent pipe band drummers. The book begins with an overview of the role snare drummers play in a band and how they develop their craft. A short read through the fascinating backstory behind the history of the bagpipes describes how they became deeply embedded in Scottish culture and migrated to America, intertwining themselves with first responder organizations across the continent and ultimately with you.

My specialty as a self-taught professional drumset artist over the years became more and more focused on a deep awareness of supporting the song. The more I learned, the less I played and the more I listened. Over the years, I came to understand some fundamental principles of music prevalent in every style of music. Playing With Fire cuts through the infinite abyss of mystery surrounding music in general and pipe band music in particular and helps the reader quickly gain insight into these basic principles.

You'll learn to read music without realizing you're already well underway. You'll learn critical concepts regarding technique in a simple, easily understandable manner. You'll develop an awareness of the big-picture ideas that genuinely matter and skim past the details that bog down so many defeated novice drummers.

Playing With Fire sets forth the key principles to take you far down the path to becoming a rock-solid drummer, musician, band member, and pipe band aficionado. Elevate your musical awareness and lead your band to greater heights.
